      From September 17 to October 5, 2011, three nuns and two monks participated in the twelfth Spiritual Exchange Program, jointly organized by the Institute for Zen Studies in Kyoto and Monastic Interreligious Dialogue. We give here the testimonials they submitted on their return from Japan, along with some extracts of a study on Buddhist-Christian dialogue written by the Japanese scholar, Akihi Muto.

Aloysius Pieris SJ, JESUS AND MARY AS PORTRAYED BY BUDDHIST ARTISTS
     At the Tulana Research Centre for Encounter and Dialogue near Colombo, Sir Lanka, Buddhist artists have created statues and bas-reliefs depicting Jesus and Mary. Father Aloysius Pieris, S.J., founder and director of the Centre, explains how dialogue and collaboration with these artists resulted in portrayals of Jesus and Mary that incorporate Asian and Buddhist concepts and symbols and thereby offer Christians the possibility of gaining an expanded understanding and appreciation of their own religious heritage.
