Jacques Scheuer SJ, “IN HOPE AGAINST HOPE”? A CHRISTIAN MEDITATION IN THE LIGHT OF BUDDHISM
“The strength and the virtue or merit of Buddhism is to maintain hope as a pure, objectless openness. . . . The strength and the virtue or merit of Christianity is to maintain or to discover and welcome the openness of encounter.”

Ivo Dujardin OCSO, « DES HOMMES ET DES DIEUX » UN FILM UN MESSAGE
The response to the film has been so positive because people today are especially receptive to the authentic witness of life. The life of the monastic community of Tibhirine was a life of “dialogue” with their Muslim neighbors. The powerful witness of an authentic “dialogical” life is the message the producer wished to convey. This same message had already been emphasized—prophetically—by Pope Paul VI in his exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi and was specifically related to this film by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

Jacques Scheuer SJ, NOSTRA AETATE: A HALF CENTURY LATER
The formulation, principal themes, and reception of the Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions of Vatican II. A translation of « Un demi-siècle depuis Nostra Aetate :perspectives sur les relations interreligieuses »
